World of Tanks Leads Wargaming.net’s March Toward the ‘Ultimate Gaming Universe’ | World of Tanks

Wargaming.net swaggered through 2012 with an impressive year for World of Tanks.

2012 has been a fantastic year for Wargaming.net. World of Tanks has truly conquered the world.

According to Games Industry International, World of Tanks can boast some impressive figures, including a total of 45 million registered players worldwide and apparently* a new concurrent user record of 600,000 on a single game server**.

This year also saw World of Tanks’ debut on the professional eSports circuit, with the highlight of the calendar being a 7 vs. 7 tournament taking place at the World Cyber Games in China which took place from 29th November to 2nd December. The Russian outfit RED: Rush took the title convincingly.

With the game format constantly being refreshed with regular updates (currently at version 8.2) and work ongoing on stablemates World of Warplanes and World of Warships, the future looks explosive for virtual warmongers of the world as Wargaming.net continues its march toward its vision of the “ultimate gaming universe uniting millions of players into a perfectly-welded community of wargamers.” as described in this video:

*At time of writing I have been unable to find confirmation of this figure on the Guinness World Records website.

** Presumably this is what allows World of Tanks to technically be classed as an MMO despite the lack of a persistent world.
