With the recent string of Final Fantasy releases on Steam, you’d probably expect another re-release announcement to be for Steam as well. Even Square Enix likes to change things up a bit. After suddenly launching Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster with little to no warning on Steam last month, the Final Fantasy developer decided they’re done with Valve’s PC platform for the time being. Instead, they’ve returned their focus to the PlayStation 4. With XV still a few months out, Square Enix doesn’t want to do anything that might risk hurting the game’s chances, so we’ll have to wait until 2017 to see Final Fantasy XII on the PS4.

No, that wasn’t a typo. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is a real thing and is bringing Ivalice to PlayStation 4 systems next year. The Zodiac Age will include the international version’s Zodiac job system, just as the name implies. When you’re done warning people against Ondore’s lies, The Zodiac Age will include a trial mode that allows you to challenge foes in 100 consecutive battles if you can survive. A speed mode will also be included, but whether that’s just a high speed mode like Square Enix included in the recent FInal Fantasy IX re-release is unknown.

As far as the actual remaster is concerned, Final Fantasy XII is getting the full remaster treatment. Square Enix promises the latest HD graphics, including movie sequences. Just like the Final Fantasy X remaster, the soundtrack has been remastered and fans will be able to switch between both the new and original versions. For those of you looking to get the most out of your home theater systems, The Zodiac Age will include true 7.1 surround sound. All the hunts and other content you would expect to find in a Final Fantasy XII remaster is still included, but this time around there’s trophy support to be able to show off that you’ve taken down Yiazmat. If you’re not that great at remembering to save, The Zodiac Age will include an auto-save feature so you won’t be completely lost.

If you’re not sold on Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age just yet, loading times have been reduced from the original PlayStation 2 version. Still not sold? Check out the gorgeous trailer and screenshots. Square Enix hasn’t announced whether Final Fantasy XII will join its brethren on Steam, but it isn’t impossible. Vaan, Basch, Ashe, Penelo, and the rest of Ivalice’s heroes awill await your aid when Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age launches on PlayStation 4 systems across the world in 2017.
