Apple iMacs take spotlight at V&A

Apple’s fruit-coloured iMacs are to feature in the British Design and Art Direction’s (D&AD) major new exhibition – called Rewind – at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.

The exhibition is showcasing 40 years of design and advertising excellence.

D&AD has recognized Apple’s product designs many times in recent years. The fruit-coloured iMacs were designed for the company in 1999, winning a Gold Award for the Apple Design Group and British designer Jonathan Ive.

The D&AD Awards began in 1963, and have acquired a reputation as the industry equivalent of the Oscars – to the extent that Apple CEO Steve Jobs attended this years awards event to represent Apple.

Other exhibition highlights include the Chelsea Girls poster for Andy Warhol’s twin projector experimental film, and Cramer Saatchi’s Pregnant man poster for the Health Education Council.

The D&AD is also releasing a book to illustrate its forty-year history, Rewind: Forty Years of Design and Advertising. The £45 title will be published by Phaidon.
