Firms ‘piggy back’ iPod success

No fewer than 12 Macworld Expo exhibitors were cashing in on the iPod’s popularity.

A report in San Francisco-based newspaper ContraCostaTimes said 12 exhibitors were “piggy-backing on the growing popularity of the iPod”.

These ranged from Belkin, with its iPod voice-recorder, to Digital Lifestyle Outfitters – which is sells 150 iPod accessories at

John Lin of Ten Technology – the manufacturer of the naviPod wireless remote – said: “The iPod is doing phenomenally well. It makes sense to create accessories for it. We still have a lot of ideas for the iPod.”

“We can’t make our iPod audio systems fast enough,” said Altec Lansing’s Steve Schlangen.

The launch of the iPod mini will encourage even more development. According to the Times, an engineer for Palo Alto’s Speck Products diligently measured and sought the specifications for the new device during the conference, so that the start-up can build accessories in time for the launch.
